Sailing is more than drinking gin tonic

On November 21, we boarded our MAYONA II again after a 7-month summer break in Puerto Velero, an extremely remote vacation resort in Colombia.
Thanks to the dehumidifier, the mold has pretty much disappeared.
Our Polysombra sunshade has withstood the winds very well…
Not all batteries seem to have survived a deep discharge due to the “shacky” power grid.
However, 3 wasp nests with dead maggots and a dead lizard kept our boat well guarded inside.
The pasta (emergency supply) was supplemented with protein additives (small insects).
The launching of the boat was planned for Friday and actually took place.
However, the engine did not start due to corroded contacts…
Now it was time to clean, check, maintain and repair the important systems, as far as this is possible here without any stores nearby. The nearest grocery store is 20 minutes away by cab!!!
The work rate was limited due to the hot and humid climate and the numerous mosquitoes. We also waited for a repaired part, which has not yet arrived…mañana, mañana, mañana…..
As always in places like this, we got to know a few other daring sailors who were stopping here or had to… Another Swiss man had already been here for 2 months with a broken electrical system…
After 10 days we were ready to transfer to Cartagena, where we can again find stores and specialists to prepare the ship for the challenges of the Pacific.
The provisioning options here are also optimal again!
We are now also enjoying good restaurants again and the odd sundowner gin and tonic or mojito, although our favorite bar terrace is being renovated.

All the best to Switzerland! also from all the mosquitoes here…
Lukas and Mayumi
